What outside guides say
We could open one cost guide that cites the big sites. The home-cost sites themselves blocked our automated check.
- Source: Bob Vila, updated April 23, 2024, citing Angi and HomeAdvisor.
- Cost range of $158 to $360 and a national average cost of $259.
- Bob Vila says installing a TV mount on drywall will cost between $100 and $300.
- It says a brick, concrete, or stone wall will likely cost between $200 and $800.
- A handyperson is $60 to $130 an hour.
- Running wires inside the wall "can cost as much as $1,000," and a new outlet is about $210.
We found no price for the Inland Empire specifically.
Hiding the cables: what is allowed
This is the part to get right. The National Electrical Code covers flexible cords in section 400.12, as summarized by Mike Holt in EC&M, November 2024. Under section 400.12, flexible cords are not permitted as a substitute for fixed wiring or to be run through holes in walls, ceilings, or floors. In plain words: do not push a regular power cord into the wall and out the other side.
- Surface raceway. A paintable plastic channel on the wall hides the cables without opening the wall. We offer this for $35.
- A recessed outlet behind the TV. A licensed electrician installs a receptacle on the wall behind the screen so the plug is hidden. This is electrical work, so we do not do it.
- Low-voltage cables. HDMI and other signal cables are a different matter from power. Whoever mounts the TV should say how they route them.
Power-bridge kits that move power inside a wall are debated, and we could not find a source that settles whether a given kit is allowed, so we do not offer one. If someone else offers one, ask which product it is, whether it is listed for in-wall use and whether your city inspects it. When in doubt, use a raceway or call an electrician.
Mounting to studs: what a mount maker says
The Sanus manual for a fixed wall mount is a good example of what a safe install needs. It says the wall must support five times the combined weight of the TV and mount.
The drywall covering the wall must not exceed 16 mm (5/8 in.).
The minimum wood stud size is 51 x 102 mm (2 x 4 in.).
The minimum horizontal space between lag bolts is 41 cm (16 in.).
Pilot holes are drilled to a depth of 75 mm (3 in.), using a 5.5 mm (7/32 in.) diameter drill bit.
It also warns not to over-tighten the lag bolts.
That is the reason a TV should never hang from drywall anchors alone, and why we find studs and mark the wall before we drill. Your mount's manual has its own numbers, and we follow it.
Picking a mount: fixed, tilting or full-motion
A fixed mount holds the TV flat and close to the wall. It is the simplest and usually the cheapest. A tilting mount lets you angle the screen down a few degrees, which helps when the TV hangs above eye level. A full-motion mount swings out and turns, which suits a corner or a room where you watch from more than one spot, and it puts more load on the wall because the TV sits further from it. We supply a tilting mount for $45 and a full-motion mount for $85, or you can bring your own.
Check the weight rating on whichever mount you buy.
The Sanus manual we read lists a weight capacity of 57 kg (125 lb) for its fixed mount.
It also requires the wall itself to support five times the combined weight of the TV and mount. Most modern TVs are far lighter than that, but the mount's rating and your TV's weight should both be on the box or in the manual.
What to check before you book
- The TV's weight and size, and that your mount is rated for both.
- What the wall is made of. Drywall over wood studs is the standard case. Brick, stone, tile and plaster are different.
- Where the power outlet is. If it is far from where the TV will hang, plan on a raceway, or on an electrician for a new outlet.
- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission began its Anchor It! campaign in response to a rise in injuries and deaths from furniture and TV tip-overs. If a TV stays on a stand instead of the wall, anchor it.
- Whether you rent. A landlord may have rules about drilling.
- The total, in writing, before the visit.

Common questions
How much does it cost to mount a TV?
Up to 43" $99, 44" to 54" $119, 55" to 69" $139, 70" and larger $169 with us, on drywall. Bob Vila reports a national average near $259 (citing Angi and HomeAdvisor).
Can you hide the cables in the wall?
We hide cables in a surface raceway on the wall. We do not do in-wall power wiring or move outlets. That needs a licensed electrician.
Can you mount a TV on brick or stone?
Yes, as a custom quote. Choose Brick, stone or tile on the TV mounting page and send the form.
Do I need studs?
Yes. Mount makers specify lag bolts into wood studs, with at least 16 inches between bolts for many mounts. We find the studs first.
Do you provide the mount?
You can bring your own or buy one from us: tilting $45, full-motion $85.
