Water in Corona and what it does to glass
The City of Corona's Department of Water and Power supplies water. Its report for 2025 says about 45.5 percent came from city wells, 49.6 percent from Lake Mathews, which is Colorado River water treated at the city's plants, and 4.9 percent from the State Water Project. The report gives the system-wide average hardness as 146 mg/L, which it says is 8.5 grains per gallon and classes as hard, with a treated range of 7.2 to 290 mg/L.
The sources differ a lot. State Project water averaged 88 mg/L, Colorado River water 288 and raw groundwater 452, which is treated before it reaches you, and the report says hardness can change with demand and season. So Corona water goes from moderately hard to very hard over the year. Spots on glass can come and go for that reason. See the hard-water guide for how to tell mineral spots from dirt.
Wind, dust and sun
Wikipedia says autumn in Corona can be windy because of the Santa Ana winds, which blow in two or three times a year from October to December. It also says summers can pass 100 degrees. The city sits at the upper end of the Santa Ana River canyon. Dust and ash collect on glass after wind events. A wet rinse with pure water takes both off without scratching.

HOAs, roofs and solar panels
Some Corona homes have rooftop solar. For single-story roofs we clean panels from the ground, $6 a panel. We never walk a roof, and we leave second-story arrays alone. Eagle Glen in south Corona has a master association, from listing sites, so we call it a weak source. If you have an association, check its contractor rules.
Corona electric service and solar billing
Most Corona homes are on Southern California Edison. The city's Utilities Department supplies power to about 3.4 percent of Corona. Its rate-change notice counts 1,843 bundled electricity customers. The city's expedited permit page says a separate application and approval from the electric utility for your address is required before starting work. It also says Corona Utilities does not allow a Tesla Backup Switch on its meters. SCE customers: the CPUC says applications since April 15, 2023 take the Net Billing Tariff, and NEM 2.0 customers keep their tariff 20 years from interconnection. Check your bill for the utility name.
Corona solar permits and rights
Corona's expedited residential solar permit uses an application form, eligibility checklist, standard plan and structural criteria form. Corona's solar permit also needs a roof plan and spec sheets for all installed items. The completed package and all attachments may be submitted electronically through the city's electronic permit portal, eTRAKiT. Civil Code 714 voids association rules that effectively ban solar. Wikipedia's list of Corona specific plans includes Eagle Glen and Corona Hills, but we found no association rules for either.
