Water in San Dimas and what it does to glass

Golden State Water Company serves San Dimas. Its report describes a blend of treated groundwater from the Main San Gabriel Basin, surface water from Covina Valley Water Company and imported water. Total hardness averaged 205 mg/L, with a range of 85 to 307 mg/L. The report gives it as an average of 12 grains per gallon, ranging from 5.0 to 18. On the USGS scale, anything over 180 mg/L is "very hard".

Whether Golden State serves every address in the city was not confirmed in what we read. The glass is the check. Very hard water leaves heavy white rings where a sprinkler hits a window, and they build faster than in lower-hardness cities. If you have crust, tell us in your quote request and we will text you for a photo. We quote removal from the photo, from about $6 a window on top, and never add it without asking. The hard-water guide covers prevention.

Wind, dust and sun

Foothill cities get the Santa Ana winds that blow mostly October to February. We found a 2012 Patch post on a National Weather Service wind advisory for the San Gabriel Valley foothills with gusts up to 50 mph. We found nothing specific to San Dimas, so we do not claim a local number. Ash and dust from a wind or brush-fire day are mostly a dirt problem, and a wet rinse with pure water removes them.

HOAs, roofs and solar panels

If you have solar, we clean panels on single-story roofs from the ground, $6 a panel, with a $110 minimum. We never walk a roof, and we do not clean arrays on second-story roofs. We did not find a named master-planned HOA community in San Dimas, so check your own association for contractor rules.

San Dimas electric service and solar billing

San Dimas is on an SCE service territory city list. That list is dated 2010, so your bill is the way to confirm your utility today.

The CPUC says the Net Billing Tariff applies to customers who submit an interconnection application on or after April 15, 2023. Customers on the NEM 2.0 tariff are allowed to remain on it for 20 years from the date they interconnected. Your interconnection date decides which applies. For scale, a University of California San Diego study of 186 California sites found that, on average, sites would have yielded 0.81 percent more annual energy if they had been washed halfway through the summer drought. It did not report results for this city, so yours can differ. Rain does much of the work in a wet winter.

San Dimas solar permits and association rules

San Dimas Municipal Code Chapter 15.06 covers small residential rooftop solar. Under it, the building department issues a permit within three business days of the filing of the application when the plan meets the city checklist and standard plan. Only one inspection by the building department is required. Under Civil Code 714, an association restriction that effectively bans solar is void. We found no named master-planned association in San Dimas.
