Mounting a Samsung Frame TV near Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga, and what renters can do

The Frame is built to look like a framed picture, so the mount and the cable matter more than on other TVs. This guide explains what Samsung says, what we do on drywall and what to do if you rent.

Short answer: a Frame TV comes with a slim wall mount that sits close to the wall. We mount it on drywall for the flat price for its size (Up to 43" $99, 44" to 54" $119, 55" to 69" $139, 70" and larger $169). The cable runs to a separate One Connect box that you place elsewhere. We do no electrical work.

If you rent, ask your landlord before anyone drills. If a landlord says no, Samsung sells a floor stand for The Frame that needs no wall holes.

What we do and do not do

  • We do: mount a Frame TV on a drywall wall into wood studs, level it, and connect the One Connect cable to the TV. We can hide cables in a paintable surface raceway.
  • We do not: add or move outlets, run power in the wall or offer in-wall power kits. A recessed outlet behind the Frame needs a licensed electrician.
  • We do not mount on drywall alone. The mount goes into studs, as Samsung's guide says.
  • Brick, stone and tile: a custom quote. Choose Brick, stone or tile on the TV mounting page and send the form.

The Frame's wall mount

Samsung's UK support page says all Frame TVs are supplied with a wall mount in the box, so you do not need to buy one. Some people call it the "no-gap" mount. Samsung's current pages call it the Slim Fit mount. The installation guide says the design attaches the TV flush against the wall while leaving enough space for the One Connect box cable.

The Frame model year decides which mount fits. Samsung's UK support page lists a Slim Fit wall mount for specific models, including The Frame. Before you buy a mount, match your exact model number to the list.

How the install goes

Samsung's Slim Fit installation guide for One Connect TVs lists the steps. In short: brackets go on the back of the TV, paper templates are aligned along a guiding line to mark the wall, and the wall brackets go on at the marks. The One Connect cable is pushed into the TV until it clicks and held by a cable holder.

The guide also has wall warnings that match our practice. It says to always consult an expert for installing on drywall, not to fix the mount to drywall without reinforcement, and that the minimum wood stud is 2 by 4 inches. Holes must be drilled in the center of the studs, because studs can split if the holes are off-center. It calls for 3 mm (1/8 inch) pilot holes and supports studs 16, 18 or 24 inches apart. It gives no weight limit on that page, so we use the weight listed for your model.

The One Connect box and the cable

Most Frame sets split the TV from its connections. The One Connect Box holds the ports, and a thin cable links it to the TV. You can keep the box and your devices elsewhere if the cable can run between them, along the wall or baseboards, and you should not bend the cable at a harsh angle. We do not run cables inside walls, and in-wall cable runs can have their own local rules, so ask a licensed electrician what applies to your home. We can run the thin cable down the wall in a raceway.

Some newer Frame models use a wireless version of the box. Check what is in your box.

Renters: your options

Ask your landlord before drilling into the walls. Read your lease for rules on holes, mounts and alterations. If the answer is yes, ask for it in writing, even a text.

The California Civil Code says a security deposit may be used for the repair of damages to the premises, exclusive of ordinary wear and tear, caused by the tenant or the tenant's guest. It requires the landlord to send an itemized statement of deductions within 21 calendar days after the tenant has vacated the premises. That tells you why a landlord might care about holes. We copied this text from a copy of the code hosted by the Santa Clara County Superior Court, not from the state site, and it may not be the newest version. We are not lawyers and this is not legal advice. For a real dispute, call a tenant rights group or the court's self-help center.

We did not find any rule that says a certain size of hole is or is not wear and tear. Do not assume small holes are free.

  • Floor stand. Samsung sells a Studio Stand for The Frame, a freestanding leg stand that lets you display it without wall-mounting. Check on Samsung's site that it fits your Frame's size and year, and the current price.
  • Other TV stands. A furniture stand or a floor stand from another brand works only if it lists your TV's size and weight. We have not tested any, so we do not recommend a brand.
  • Offer terms. You can ask for permission to mount if you hire a pro and agree to patch and paint the holes when you leave. Get the answer in writing.
  • Patching. Plan on patching and painting the holes when you move out, and ask your landlord what they expect.

Before you book

  • Find your TV's model number and size. We mount to the flat price for its size.
  • Know where the One Connect box will live and where the nearest outlet is.
  • Check the wall. Drywall over wood studs is the standard job. Plaster, brick, stone or tile is a custom quote.
  • If you rent, get your landlord's okay first and keep it in writing.
  • Decide whether to use the box in the same room (with a raceway) or in another room with the cable run along the baseboards.

Our TV mounting page shows the full price list from $99. A surface raceway for the cable is $35. A Frame normally uses its own slim mount, so you do not need to buy ours. Price your job in about a minute. We cover Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, Chino Hills and every city within 15 miles.

Common questions

Does a Samsung Frame TV come with a wall mount?

Yes. Samsung's UK support page says all Frame TVs are supplied with a wall mount in the box. Check your own model, because mounts differ by year and size.

How close to the wall does it sit?

Close. The Slim Fit mount attaches the TV flush against the wall, with just enough space for the One Connect cable, so the box and plug need somewhere else to go.

Where does the One Connect box go?

Anywhere the cable reaches, including another room, with the cable run along the wall or baseboards and not bent sharply. We run it down the wall in a raceway if you want.

Can I mount a Frame TV if I rent?

Ask your landlord and read your lease first. If you get a yes, we can mount it on drywall. If not, Samsung's Studio Stand floor stand needs no wall holes.

Can you hide the One Connect cable inside the wall?

No. We do not run cables in walls and we do no electrical work. Ask a licensed electrician.

How much does it cost to mount a Frame TV?

Up to 43" $99, 44" to 54" $119, 55" to 69" $139, 70" and larger $169 on drywall, with the mount that comes with the TV. Brick, stone and tile are a custom quote.
